You can connect to the files on your H drive at any of the public machines in Marquand Library:
Directions for PCs (with Microsoft Vista)
- Open Computer (icon on top left of Desktop)
- Select: Map Network Drive on top right of menu at top
- Select the drive letter (usually 'H')
- Enter the following folder path (substituting your NetID): \\files\NetID
- Select Finish
- You will now be prompted for your username and network password. Enter princeton\NetID and your email password. Select Ok
- Your files should now appear in a new window, and you will see your H-drive files listed as a Network Location under Computer.
Saving to your H-drive
- Drag your files into the H drive explorer window, OR save from within an application by selecting File --> Save a Copy and selecting the H drive from the pull-down Save in menu.
Opening files
- Open files directly from the H drive explorer window, OR open from within an application by selecting File --> Open and selecting the H drive from the pull-down Look in menu.
Remember to Disconnect the H drive at the end of your session by selecting this icon on the Desktop (top right).
Directions for Mac OS X computers
- With the Finder active, select Connect to Server... from the Go menu, or from the keyboard use Command-K.
- In the Connect to Server window, type the following Address field: smb://yourNetID@files.princeton.edu/yourNetID
- Click the Connect button
- You will be presented with the SMB/CIFS Filesystem Authentication window.
- Enter Princeton for Workgroup/Domain
- Enter your netID for Username
- Enter your University password
The mapped drive will appear on your desktop where you can interact with it like any other folder on your hard drive.
Note: MAC OS 9 computers cannot connect to the Central File Server unless using Windows emulation software.
